Editorial illustration projects: visual art for publications | Valentina Grisales

Ismenia decide jamás decidir

A small room in Madrid is the main setting for the reunion between a mother and her daughter.
One, a writer exiled during the Franco years, returns to receive an award for her latest novel.
The other, an art and poetry enthusiast living off the rent of an apartment in Sweden, welcomes her with open arms. Over the course of a single night, two generations will confront their ideological differences, their views on art, and, once the masks fall, their family history.

Cover of the book "smenia decide jamás decidir" by Claudio Castro Filho, with a minimalist design in purple and pink tones.
Illustration of daily life in the book "Aguadulce", with details of a table and glasses of aguardiente, reflecting themes of survival and culture in Colombia in the 60's.

Author: Carolina Ospina

“Domestic violence, need, machismo, religion, drug trafficking, violence, precariousness, patriarchy. It’s all implicit; there’s no need to name it, as these conditions are the very air breathed in these stories, shaping the images of a life that had to be told ‘against wind and mountain.’

Aguadulce is an illustrated book of 16 short stories that portray the life of a woman born in Santa Fe de Antioquia, Colombia, in the 1960s.”
